t is hot. Very hot. If you are reading these lines, exciting things have happened: the latest lamonee update has gone live! It is the result of over 18 months of hard work in my spare time (and recently in my completely overheated office), and I am equally happy, exhausted and sweaty.
Well, it has been quite a dry spell for you too. Without any update news, there were certainly fears that the project had ground to a halt. But quite the opposite is true: with this massive update package, I am laying the foundation for an international lamonee, which will soon be arriving in all major app stores.
The lamonee Roadmap for 2026
Before we take a closer look at the new features, a brief word about my current roadmap for 2026. Attentive readers will have already noticed that I am behind my original schedule. This is partly due to features that I brought forward (such as a GDPR-compliant newsletter system for this very newsletter), and partly due to the unpredictable nature of spare time. Unfortunately, things outside a standard 8-hour working day cannot be planned as easily. I will adjust the existing roadmap, but the main goals for this year remain rock-solid:

The vision behind these goals is clear: to reach even more people who use lamonee with the same dedication and commitment as our current users – because every pound of annual revenue gives me more room for all the functions and features I still have in mind.

New Functions & Features
1. Complete Rewrite of the Server-Side API
The first feature is actually invisible, but it is the most important of all: a deep “refactoring”. The core server of lamonee (the part that calculates and stores data) was nearly 8 years old in some places. It was high time for a major modernisation! The old source code has been replaced by a brand-new, service-based architecture that meets the highest standards for security, scalability, and performance. 2. Key Management Service from Deutsche Telekom
A huge leap forward for the security of your data: previously, your budget data was encrypted with a single secure key. However, email addresses or financial amounts were still stored in plain text within the database. While this was GDPR-compliant (as these details were used for specific purposes), it personally wasn’t enough for me. That is why everything is changing now:
- Encryption of ALL sensitive user data:
Thanks to the new server core, all sensitive user data (including email addresses & financial amounts – and much more) will now be stored in encrypted form. I use at least one separate cryptographic key per user. - Utilisation of the modern Cryptography Service by Deutsche Telekom (KMS):
I am absolutely delighted to have secured Telekom, one of the most secure European cloud infrastructure providers. Their cryptographic service is world-class, and lamonee is using it effective immediately. Of course, there are US providers that are sometimes cheaper – but I promised you that your data would not leave the European data protection area. I am strictly sticking to that.
3. English Language Version & International Currencies
A real milestone for the internationalisation of lamonee: every single screen text has been translated into English! Furthermore, you can now choose from a wide range of currencies (e.g. Norwegian Krone, Turkish Lira, or Polish Złoty). And for those who find reality a bit too dry, there are now some “fantasy” currencies available. Let yourself be surprised!
4. Everything-at-a-Glance Budget Overview
Positioned prominently above your budget, you will now find the new Budget Overview. Here you can see at a single glance how your monthly planning is going: over budget, under budget, or perfectly balanced to zero? The new overview gives you instant feedback and helps with valuable tips in tricky budgeting situations.
5. More Budget Item Filters
Integrated directly into the budget search: filters for manual budget items, charms, extra expenses, carryovers, or budget withdrawals. This allows you to find the items that need your attention much faster. The budget overview is linked to these filters: clicking on a notification takes you straight to the relevant items!
6. Achievements & Tutorials
To boost your motivation while managing your budget, lamonee now offers a series of exciting achievements. Creating 10 transactions? No problem at all! 1,000 transactions? That requires some staying power. For newcomers, there are also tutorial achievements that explain the most important functions in a playful way (simply click on “First Steps & Help”).
7. Better User Experience for All Devices
Appearance matters. What looked cutting-edge in 2024 can sometimes look slightly outdated today. That is why lamonee has received a UX refresh: optimised fonts, fresher colours, better drag-and-drop on desktop, and more swipe gestures on smartphones. This ensures a much calmer and more professional look.
